Summers Down The Shore

I’m about to let you in on a little secret that might surprise you: the television show, The Jersey Shore is not an accurate representation of what life is like in the beach towns of New Jersey. Sure, the particular area that the show was filmed in does lives up to some of the things that were portrayed there, but outside of the tiny town that people identify the show with is a hidden oasis of picturesque beach communities.Lavallette is a tiny, quaint beach town I grew up spending my summers in. On one side of the island is the ocean and on the opposite side is the bay. Beach shops and boutiques line the streets and home made ice cream is available on every other block. There are staple restaurants like the Crabs Claw that you can roll into after a day on the beach wearing a tank top and swim trunks, snack on coconut shrimp, and dance to live cover bands belting out hits from Bon Jovi and Journey all night long. The …

Maui Jim: A Taste of Hawaii

It’s no secret that I have a deep connection to Hawaii; so much so that I travel to Maui and Kauai every winter. If I can’t be in Hawaii everyday (one can dream), then I at least want to feel as close to the islands as possible. That’s one of the many reasons why I love the sunglass brand, Maui Jim. The company started in Maui’s Lahaina area with the mission to create lenses that prevent harmful UV rays from hitting your eyes while also capturing the vibrant colors of Hawaii. They believe that it’s not about where you are; its about the magic that happens when you slip on a pair of Maui Jim’s and experience that the view is truly better behind their lenses – and they live up to their mission. With more than 125 styles of polarized glasses that protect against UVB and UVA rays, there is something for everyone to choose from with this fashion-forward brand.I was immediately drawn to the colorful Wakea model. The frame is frosted crystal, a …

Adventures with Buick

I just love escaping the city on weekends during the summer. I crave nature, and just an hour from Manhattan, you can find beaches, lakes, and mountains. My husband and I often go to to my family’s home on the Jersey Shore. For us, it brings total tranquility. I teamed up with Buick this holiday weekend to get away from the concrete jungle in the all-new Buick Envision.Safety is my number one priority. The roads and highways in and around Manhattan are fast-paced, crowded, and busy. Both rear-view mirrors have distance indicators to alert you when another car is nearby to your left or right. This came in handy when I wanted to quickly merge lanes and needed to make sure no cars were in my blind spots! The forward collision alert warns you if you’re getting too close to a stopped or slower car ahead. This is especially useful with the touch and go nature of bumper to bumper traffic on the highway. The Buick Envision has futuristic programming installed that will make any techie …

Heat Of Summer

In the dead heat of summer, it’s sometimes hard to put anything on my body that isn’t lightweight and comfortable. While I am all for layering, there comes a point when you just need to grab a tee and call it a day. But you don’t need to grab just any boring tee or tank. Check out the wide selection from vintage t-shirt company Junk Food Clothing. From comic book graphic art, to throwback pop culture references, to your favorite film characters and sports teams, this company puts a spin on the classic tee to keep you stylish, even while wearing a fashion basic.

W Montréal

This past weekend I ventured off to Montréal for a quick getaway with friends and stayed at the trendy W Hotel. What I love about the W brand is that their hotels have a clean, young and sexy vibe and are always consistent no matter what city you stay in. Our room was spacious and modern with views facing the city. And let’s talk about the bedding! I always look forward to the beds at a W because it’s so comfortable (they’ve started selling the bedding because demand is so high)! This W location is covered in street art from popular local artists like What Is Adam and Stikki Peaches. They have several different bars and lounges staffed with mixologists who curate unique cocktails. The spa was also a perfect way to start the day off right – I received an hour deep-tissue massage (my fave) and felt rejuvenated to take on the day. Each morning we ordered a delicious kale, spirulina, almond milk and apple smoothie — I was thrilled to see this hotel had …

Vintage/Retro Tees

The heat has officially arrived in New York City! Gone are the heavy layers consisting of sweaters, wovens, and henleys and in are the clothes that keep you cool: tees and shorts. Yes, colder months allow for more fashion options for men (because you can wear more pieces of clothing at once). But that doesn’t mean you can’t create memorable summer looks. This summer I am all about the vintage tee and colored shorts. Vintage tees are a cool way to add a non-mainstream graphic onto your clothing thats both impactful and a great conversational piece. It suddenly gives life to an otherwise basic tee. You can play with the colors and patterns of these tees. Plus: the best ones are made of ultra soft fabric. Find these tees at any “fast fashion” store like Urban Outfitters, H&M, Forever 21, and even Bloomingdales.I complimented my tee with a pair of bright white shorts. Instead of just sticking to denim, black, and grey shorts this summer, try experimenting with bright colors. Use the shorts to compliment …

Road tripping

Sometimes the best adventures are hopping in a car and seeing where the road takes you. This weekend’s road trip around New England was a beautiful one. That part of the country is stunning, surrounded by plush green forests and never ending mountain ranges. The road trip kicked off with a stop in Salem, Massachusetts to learn about the witch trials from the late 1600’s. The town definitely has an overall haunted feel to it!  After learning about the origins of witchcraft and being chased around a haunted house with a man holding a chainsaw (in which a mixture of laughter and terrifying yelling occurred), we checked out one of the oldest standing houses in the village. It blows my mind that people used to cook in gigantic stone fireplaces and that is what was considered their kitchen! It was also exciting to check out some locations from the film Hocus Pocus, one of my all-time favorite movies growing up. The building pictured below was from the famous scene in the film where Bette Midler …

Lakeside Retreat

I’ve always believed everyone needs some nature in their lives. I have been drawn to the water since I was a little guy, spending summers down the shore and finding comfort in hearing the crashing of waves. It’s one of those rare moments that you stop and realize how small you really are in comparison to this gigantic planet we live on, and there is something truly mesmerizing about that. While I mainly grew up going down the shore to my family’s house out in New Jersey, I have later in life developed just as much of a love and appreciation for lakeside retreats. My Aunt and Uncle a few years ago bought a vacation house near Lake Joseph and it is one of the most relaxing, stunning, and zen places I have been. Living in New York City, it is essential that us New Yorkers find time to escape the non-stop hustle and constant grind of everyday life and work and retreat to an oasis where you can unplug, spend time with loved ones, and …

Beach DAYS IN C-IN 2

With so many different types of bathing suits out there, it can be quite confusing to figure out what the best type for your body is. After trying out several brands, fits and styles, I realized that bathing suits such as this one from C-IN2 feel great for me. I prefer a suit that sits above the knee, hitting mid-thigh because they are very light and comfortable to wear. I hate the feeling of a soggy wet bathing suit weighing me down so this length prevents that from happening! Most importantly, most of these trunks don’t have an elastic waist band which I find incredibly suffocating. Instead they come with a flat front which rests comfortably on the waist line. I also love a bright color on the beach as it feels summery and compliment the tan you’ve worked so hard to get.?

East Hampton

I’ve grown up going down to my family’s beach house summer after summer at the Jersey Shore but today decided to check out the beaches in Manhattan’s backyard: The Hamptons.  East Hampton was stunning. The beaches were miles long full of white powdered sand and the water was crystal clear. The town was full of unique and quaint shops and the restaurants were delicious! For breakfast we stumbled upon this mom and pop restaurant that served the best smoked salmon omelette I have had in my life (and home grown teas…#heaven). After a day soaking in the rays of the sun, we found a great seafood restaurant and maybe loved the coconut shrimp spring rolls so much that two orders were ordered. ? Walking to the second restaurant, we came face to face with a beautiful windmill in original condition from the 1800s. Every piece of the wind mill was hand carved and we climbed the three stories of the old tower to see the architecture of the top. It’s amazing to see how people …
