Five Tips For A Healthier You

1. Probiotics = Your Friend I’m sure you’ve heard of probiotics since they’re becoming increasingly popular, but what do they do? It turns out 70% of your immune system lives in your gut and is responsible for keeping your internal organs functioning properly. Simply put, probiotics help everything run smoothly. They work to prevent cancer, fatigue, and even Alzheimer’s, all while keeping your digestion in check. Kombucha is an easy and beneficial way to get a powerful dose of probiotics. This fermented drink is made from tea leaves and uses healthy bacteria to combat the bad bacteria trying to attack your cells. It also works to protect your liver, which is critical for metabolism and digestion. I drink one GT’s Kombucha daily around lunch (it does give you a bit of energy so don’t have it too close to bed), and I’ve never felt better! 2. Load your protein shake with superfoods Hopefully you’re drinking protein shakes daily and enjoying all the benefits plant-based protein has to offer (I use Sunwarrior – much cleaner than …

The Power Of Plant Protein

I am a huge advocate for eating a mostly plant-based diet and limiting your daily intake of processed foods and meats. When it comes to protein powder, I ditched the whey in 2012 and switched to a plant substitute from a brand I truly love: Sunwarrior. I am excited to announce that I am their newest ambassador! Many people ask me why I made the switch to plant protein. Science shows that many of the major whey protein powders are laced with excessive amounts of heavy metals and detergents. This is clearly toxic to your body, exposing you to higher risks of cancer, heart disease, and even blood disorders. Studies continue to show that the cells in your body intended to block cancer are at a dangerously high risk of being damaged from carcinogenic metals when consuming whey protein powder. Whey can also be very hard for the body to break down and digest. After milk is curdled and strained, the liquid left behind is what makes whey protein. Many people are sensitive to this, …

Clean Protein

Protein Bars. So many options, so many mysterious ingredients. Flip over the back of the next protein bar you’re about to eat. Are you able to identify every single ingredient listed? Probably not,  because most of the ingredients listed sound more like a scientific table of elements. That’s why I eat protein bars that are all-natural and vegan. Go Macro makes a peanut butter protein replenishment bar with 12 grams of protein that I eat every day as a mid-afternoon snack. It is an explosion of flavor and will keep you full throughout the day until your next meal. Their newest line of bars, Thrive, have also quickly become a favorite of mine. The chocolate, nuts and sea salt bar is both sweet and savory, containing plant based protein and a variety of super foods to keep you fueled throughout the day. The products from Go Macro are easily digestible unlike many other bars that weigh heavily on your stomach. I always encourage my community to eat as clean as possible. If you are putting in …

Probiotics

This may shock you: drinking bacteria is beneficial to your health. I was surprised to learn this, but first, let me clarify. There are many harmful types of bacteria that are toxic to your body, but the type of bacteria found in probiotics helps your body predigest important nutrients from what you consume at a much more efficient level. 70% of your immune system lives in your gut. Probiotics are important because they help maintain a healthy gut which supports good digestion and a healthy immune system.  I am hooked on this sparkling probiotic tonic from Kevita, specifically the turmeric ginger flavor (which also has a series of other benefits because both turmeric and ginger are phenomenal for you internally and externally), and I drink one daily to keep my gut healthy. These drinks contain 4 strains of live probiotics with 4 billion CFU’s (colony forming units) and contain 100% of your daily value of Vitamin C. Digestively, I have never felt better, and what I love about these tonics is now not only do …

Go Clean

Here are a few of my favorite food items that get me through each day. I try to live the healthiest life I can, which boils down to eating clean. For over five years I have eliminated red meat, pork and turkey from my diet. I stay away from processed foods and sugary products (such as sodas, artificially sweetened drinks, high fructose corn syrup foods, etc). Instead I eat a diet loaded with fruits, veggies, lean protein (lots of chicken and seafood) and free of dairy (almond milk all the way!)? Each day post workout I have a protein shake made from in my opinion the best plant-based powder out there: Sun Warrior. It’s all natural, vegan, and free of GMO’s and artificial preservatives. I throw in bee pollen, which my best (yogi) friend got me hooked on. Bee pollen is the most natural form of a vitamin for your body. It contains almost every single nutrient required by humans and provides a natural energy booster and natural glow for your skin. Chia seeds are …
