Stretch It Out

I try to squeeze in a heavy weight-lifting workout daily, alternating different muscle groups between the upper and lower body during each gym session. It’s easy to forget to incorporate stretching into your workout when you have limited time, but this year I am challenging myself to make more of an effort to make this a part of my weekly routine. Whether it’s taking a yoga class or pulling up a program on YouTube, stretching is essential for preventing injury, keeping your muscles flexible, extending your range of motion and even increasing the nutrients to your muscles. How many of you sit at a computer all day? Researchers at the Harvard Medical School found that extended sitting is detrimental to your health, so much so that many people have switched to a standing desk to protect their posture by stretching out their body throughout the day. Stretching maintains better alignment for the spine and prevents aches and pains, which lead to a hunched posture. Plus, the tighter you are, the more likely your muscles are to …

5 Tips for a Healthier You

You know the saying: “New Year, New You!” To be completely honest, I never make New Year Resolutions. I’ve always believed you should keep both long and short-term goals throughout the year and constantly work towards achieving them, rather than starting over every year. I like to look at the New Year as a way to continue working on what it is that I want to accomplish. I always tell people that living a truly healthy life is a combination of both physical activity and what you are putting in your body. Many people ask me about my diet, so I wanted to share 5 easy tips for a healthier life: 1. AVOID PROCESSED FOODS                   They spike your cholesterol, contain toxic ingredients, have little nutritional value and are high in both sugar and high fructose corn syrup. In fact, many processed foods have been proven to lead to overeating, filling your body with empty calories and in effect making you even hungrier. 2. EAT VEGGIES EVERY …

Go Clean

Here are a few of my favorite food items that get me through each day. I try to live the healthiest life I can, which boils down to eating clean. For over five years I have eliminated red meat, pork and turkey from my diet. I stay away from processed foods and sugary products (such as sodas, artificially sweetened drinks, high fructose corn syrup foods, etc). Instead I eat a diet loaded with fruits, veggies, lean protein (lots of chicken and seafood) and free of dairy (almond milk all the way!)? Each day post workout I have a protein shake made from in my opinion the best plant-based powder out there: Sun Warrior. It’s all natural, vegan, and free of GMO’s and artificial preservatives. I throw in bee pollen, which my best (yogi) friend got me hooked on. Bee pollen is the most natural form of a vitamin for your body. It contains almost every single nutrient required by humans and provides a natural energy booster and natural glow for your skin. Chia seeds are …
