The Power Of the Black Tee

We all have days when we open our closets, stare blankly at the clothing sitting on the shelves, and frustratingly admit that we have no idea what to wear! On days like this, never underestimate the power of a black tee.The black tee shirt is sexy, cool and trendy without making your outfit too complex. When pairing this item with the right counterparts, you can even achieve a sophisticated look. But not just any old black tee shirt will create a striking outfit. You must choose one that is properly fitted and one that creates a silhouette to compliment your body. Ditch the crew neck for a v-neck to add an extra element of elevation to the tee. It may sound silly, but a detail as small as the shape of the neck makes a big difference in setting the tone of your look. When it comes to fabric, stay away from 100% cotton shirts and opt for a blended or silk material – this will make the tee shirt appear dressier. The other pieces you …

Elevate Your Exercise Gear

This post was sponsored by Zappos. As an exercise fanatic, I am always on the hunt for comfortable workout gear that allows me to have the best training sessions possible. I teamed up with Zappos.com to try out the latest Brooks collection, and it does not disappoint! When it comes to gym shorts, I often find many on the market are too wide, long or baggy. I like to wear active clothes that not only feel good, but also look good. Who says you can’t be stylish when going to the gym? These Brooks Cascadia (7 inch) shorts have a more tailored fit and a built in liner for extra support during your workouts. The fabric is designed to keep you cool and comfortable and is even wind resistant, which is great for outdoor training days.I don’t like wearing t-shirts to the gym – they’re usually restricting. But what I like about the Brooks Fremont shirt is that it has underarm paneling that allows for more freedom of movement. You don’t feel like the shirt is …

Swimwear Season

The swimwear season is quickly approaching and, while it’s easy to fall into the pattern of wearing the same bathing suits year after year, I challenge you to upgrade them. Below are my four tips for choosing the right swimwear that will keep you looking current, trendy and well-styled for all of your warm weather escapes:1. Above The Knee Is In It is time to look at swimwear in a completely different way. Toss aside your below the knee bathing suits and choose trunks that rests slightly above the knees, or even a little shorter if you’re feeling more adventurous. Long swimsuits often look sloppy, doing nothing to accentuate your silhouette and can often make you appear wider than you actually are. A shorter, fitted swimsuit gives you a cleaner look and will elevate your swimsuit game.2. Highlighter Colors Are Your Friend Nothing accentuates a nice golden tan like a pop of color. You should wear highlighter colors all spring and summer (or any season in a tropical location). There’s no better opportunity to do …

The Piece That Keeps On Giving

Every man should own at least one cardigan. They can make an outfit look new, simply by throwing it over any woven, flannel or v-neck in your wardrobe. Cardigans are practical items to own because they are pieces that can be worn three out of four seasons: fall, winter and spring. Whether you are going for a more professional look, pairing it with a crisp button-down, tie and slacks for a corporate-feel, or a more casual look, throwing it over a flannel or tee, this piece can be used to achieve any style. This is one item where the fit makes a drastic difference. If you buy a cardigan too large, it can make you appear heavier than you are, creating excess fabric around your waistline. If you buy a cardigan that is too tight, you can appear like your circulation is being cut off and the layers underneath your sweater will wrinkle. I aways say there is a fine line between fitted and too small, and you want to be sure to remain in the …

Dressing For the Weather

The weather in New York City this past weekend was a bit schizophrenic. Unpredictable weather makes figuring out what to wear each day stressful – leaving you scratching your head while staring blankly inside your closet. Feeling both hot and cold within the span of an hour is the new norm for people living in the city, so in order to be dressed appropriately for the unpredictable temperatures while still being able to maintain your own personal style, I suggest building your outfits around multiple layers.Friday I had a packed day of meetings, so I dressed corporate-appropriate with a GQ flare. I wore black slacks from H&M, a crisp white button-down (you can never have enough of these in your closet), the Urban Gentleman tie from my new collection, and a thin wool top coat. I carried the items needed for the day in a brown leather duffle (with a blue lined bottom) from Canvas by Lands End instead of a traditional work bag to make the look have a sporty touch.Friday night means hanging …

Monochromatic

Wearing one color is a surprisingly easy way to make a statement. Monochromatic dressing is creating an overall tonal look by wearing similar shades of a single color. You might be thinking that you have no idea where to begin when it comes to exploring this style, but the easiest way to start is by throwing the same colors of different articles of clothing onto your bed (pants, sweaters, cardigans, tee’s, etc). To successfully pull off this look, you want to find different textures of clothing to pair together. This will give your outfit a modern feel and add a layer of depth – important so that your outfit doesn’t feel dull. For example, I paired a woven stitched Varsity Jacket with a speckled Henley to add contrast to the hues of blue. You’ll notice that my jacket has a pop of light grey, a strategic decision in pulling together this look. I advise that when dressing monochromatic, always incorporate a pop of a lighter or darker color (the opposite to the shade you built your …

Easy Iron Shirts: H&M

It’s no secret I love finding great deals and while I may splurge on some items, I also try to find quality clothing at affordable price points when switching up my many different looks. H&M is a go-to store of mine so I was thrilled when they wanted to partner up to launch their new easy-iron collection.I am always on the hunt for tailored, soft button-downs. Many wovens feel starchy or itchy, so when shopping for these items, the material is important to consider. This slim-fit button down with a turn-down collar is a great going out option when you don’t need to wear a blazer because you can tuck this shirt in without having excessive amounts of fabric hanging out of the sides (which is one of the biggest struggles when wanting to only wear a button-down). I also grabbed a chunky two-toned grey scarf because you can never have enough oversized scarves to keep you warm all winter long. The two tones give a high-fashion vibe and add a pop to the solid …

The Tommy DiDario Collection

When luxury tie company David Fin asked me to collaborate on a collection, I jumped at the opportunity. Ties are an article of clothing that everyone needs. Whether it’s to wear at work, a special occasion or an evening out, having nice ties in your closet is a necessity. What I love about David Fin is that the fabrics are sourced from Como, Italy, but the ties are handmade in New York City. The same quality of fabrics from the same mills as fellow high end designers are used in the creation of these pieces, but are one third of the price. My collection was created for the fashion-forward guy who isn’t afraid to take a risk. Meet my designs below: The Urban Gentleman: Designed for the working professional who likes to leave a lasting impression, this handcrafted-in-NYC tie is a trendy way to dress up your suit. The Life Of The Party: Give people something to talk about at the next party you are at with this reversible tie.The Winter Chill: Embrace the chilly …

Vintage Inspired Swimwear

There is nothing like escaping New York City during the winter and heading to a tropical oasis, ditching puffy jackets and infinite layers for a collection of swimwear. On my recent trip to Hawaii, I took a few bathing suits from Mr. Turk, a company I recently discovered from the explore page on Instagram. I am very particular when it comes to bathing suits because so many fit awkwardly – too baggy, too long, too short, too wide, etc. I also have bigger quads, but a slimmer waist so finding trunks that fit proportionately can sometimes be a daunting challenge. This is why I love Mr. Turk! The swimwear is made for the athletic guy and is designed to accentuate all the right areas. Many of the bathing suits are vintage-inspired and are available in multiple lengths so that you can wear whichever you are most comfortable in.The vibrant colors and geometric patterns add a playful element to your swimsuit collection and the soft fabrics feel comfortable against your skin – especially when wet after taking a …

‘Tis The Season For Flannels

Textured sweaters and flannel shirts are two items, that when paired together, create a perfectly cozy winter look. While there are many ways to wear a flannel (un-buttoned with a v-neck tee, under a puffer vest, wrapped around your waist, etc), one of my favorite ways is dressing up the shirt by using it as a layering piece underneath a fitted sweater. For this look, I paired a burgundy and green flannel (perfect for the holiday season) with a speckled charcoal sweater and dark denim. When I use a v-neck sweater as a layering piece, I generally like to make sure the fabric is thin to create a fitted silhouette. This also allows pops of detail from your inside layering piece to show in areas such as your wrists (perfect for cuffing) and torso. Throw your favorite brown leather boots on to polish off the look and you are ready to hit all of your parties this season! Get the look: Shirt  Sweater  Denim
