Easing Into Fall

The weather is playing tricks on us, again! One day you’re mad that you aren’t wearing enough layers, while the next day you’re trying to peel the skin off your body because it’s randomly and overwhelmingly hot. Until we are a few weeks into autumn, figuring out what to wear each day is a mission. Here are my four tips to starting off the fall season with style and comfort in mind, so that you’re ready to tackle whatever Mother Nature throws your way. 1. Fabric Matters You can never go wrong wearing a sport jacket. If you’re not required to wear a suit for work, make sure to stock up on a few sport jackets that are made of a lighter fabric. Keep the wool away until the temperatures really drop. I like to use a sport coat also as a jacket when there are warm days and cool nights because it is one less piece of clothing to worry about during temperamental weather. It’s as I like to call it, a two-for-one piece. …

Maui Jim: A Taste of Hawaii

It’s no secret that I have a deep connection to Hawaii; so much so that I travel to Maui and Kauai every winter. If I can’t be in Hawaii everyday (one can dream), then I at least want to feel as close to the islands as possible. That’s one of the many reasons why I love the sunglass brand, Maui Jim. The company started in Maui’s Lahaina area with the mission to create lenses that prevent harmful UV rays from hitting your eyes while also capturing the vibrant colors of Hawaii. They believe that it’s not about where you are; its about the magic that happens when you slip on a pair of Maui Jim’s and experience that the view is truly better behind their lenses – and they live up to their mission. With more than 125 styles of polarized glasses that protect against UVB and UVA rays, there is something for everyone to choose from with this fashion-forward brand.I was immediately drawn to the colorful Wakea model. The frame is frosted crystal, a …

Short Sleeve Button-Downs

Should you or shouldn’t you? That is a question many people contemplate when looking at a short sleeved button-down before purchasing. But I am here to break the stigma and offer some helpful advice: short sleeve button downs are a fantastic summer staple that should be in your wardrobe. They keep you cool in the heat of summer and are usually appropriate enough for you to wear to your offices. But be cautious – there is a catch. If not worn properly, the clean, put-together look you are trying to achieve can in actuality leave you looking disheveled. Below are some helpful tips to set you up for success when shopping for this summer piece. For some reason, these types of shirts often run big. The sleeves and mid-section are too wide and the length is too long. You will need to try out a few different brands to see which ones gives you a more fitted style  – especially if you plan on wearing them to work because you should tuck the shirt in for …

Patriotic Prep

I recently partnered with the online boutique store JANE.com for the launch of their new men’s category. JANE.com sells everything from gadgets, to clothing, to home décor and more and offers 200+ new deals everyday at prices you can’t find in traditional stores – up to 80% off. As someone who is always looking for the best deal, this is music to my ears! They carry sporty, urban and classic styles so there is something for everyone. This is how it works: each deal on their site runs for 72 hours (unless the item is sold out). After 72 hours, the site runs a new deal. You could get lost on their site for hours by the time you check out all the different categories!I saw this “Stars and Stripes” tee and had to snatch it up with the Fourth of July in mind. I paired it with dark denim that I also found on the site and, within seconds, I created an outfit festive enough for the upcoming holiday. It’s hard for me to find …

Dressing For Outdoor Events

It is the season of outdoor events and many guys wonder how to keep their style fresh while also looking appropriate for their outings. Below are some of my tips to keep you feeling confident in the choices you are making with your spring fashion.Go Bright: It’s not everyday that you can wear a pastel green or pink article of clothing. For these types of events, it is all about making a statement. While the ladies have fun experimenting with big hats, the gentlemen can have their own fun playing with color. My general rule is only choose one core item that has a color pop (unless you are doing a full suit). For example, if you are wearing a bright baby blue blazer, pair it with white or tan tailored pants or shorts. Don’t forget about the footwear – your shoes can also have a pop of color that compliments your top!Find A Perfectly Tailored Shirt: Whether you are wearing a preppy polo or a crisp button down shirt, the fit can make or …

The Power Of the Black Tee

We all have days when we open our closets, stare blankly at the clothing sitting on the shelves, and frustratingly admit that we have no idea what to wear! On days like this, never underestimate the power of a black tee.The black tee shirt is sexy, cool and trendy without making your outfit too complex. When pairing this item with the right counterparts, you can even achieve a sophisticated look. But not just any old black tee shirt will create a striking outfit. You must choose one that is properly fitted and one that creates a silhouette to compliment your body. Ditch the crew neck for a v-neck to add an extra element of elevation to the tee. It may sound silly, but a detail as small as the shape of the neck makes a big difference in setting the tone of your look. When it comes to fabric, stay away from 100% cotton shirts and opt for a blended or silk material – this will make the tee shirt appear dressier. The other pieces you …

Elevate Your Exercise Gear

This post was sponsored by Zappos. As an exercise fanatic, I am always on the hunt for comfortable workout gear that allows me to have the best training sessions possible. I teamed up with Zappos.com to try out the latest Brooks collection, and it does not disappoint! When it comes to gym shorts, I often find many on the market are too wide, long or baggy. I like to wear active clothes that not only feel good, but also look good. Who says you can’t be stylish when going to the gym? These Brooks Cascadia (7 inch) shorts have a more tailored fit and a built in liner for extra support during your workouts. The fabric is designed to keep you cool and comfortable and is even wind resistant, which is great for outdoor training days.I don’t like wearing t-shirts to the gym – they’re usually restricting. But what I like about the Brooks Fremont shirt is that it has underarm paneling that allows for more freedom of movement. You don’t feel like the shirt is …

Swimwear Season

The swimwear season is quickly approaching and, while it’s easy to fall into the pattern of wearing the same bathing suits year after year, I challenge you to upgrade them. Below are my four tips for choosing the right swimwear that will keep you looking current, trendy and well-styled for all of your warm weather escapes:1. Above The Knee Is In It is time to look at swimwear in a completely different way. Toss aside your below the knee bathing suits and choose trunks that rests slightly above the knees, or even a little shorter if you’re feeling more adventurous. Long swimsuits often look sloppy, doing nothing to accentuate your silhouette and can often make you appear wider than you actually are. A shorter, fitted swimsuit gives you a cleaner look and will elevate your swimsuit game.2. Highlighter Colors Are Your Friend Nothing accentuates a nice golden tan like a pop of color. You should wear highlighter colors all spring and summer (or any season in a tropical location). There’s no better opportunity to do …

The Piece That Keeps On Giving

Every man should own at least one cardigan. They can make an outfit look new, simply by throwing it over any woven, flannel or v-neck in your wardrobe. Cardigans are practical items to own because they are pieces that can be worn three out of four seasons: fall, winter and spring. Whether you are going for a more professional look, pairing it with a crisp button-down, tie and slacks for a corporate-feel, or a more casual look, throwing it over a flannel or tee, this piece can be used to achieve any style. This is one item where the fit makes a drastic difference. If you buy a cardigan too large, it can make you appear heavier than you are, creating excess fabric around your waistline. If you buy a cardigan that is too tight, you can appear like your circulation is being cut off and the layers underneath your sweater will wrinkle. I aways say there is a fine line between fitted and too small, and you want to be sure to remain in the …

Dressing For the Weather

The weather in New York City this past weekend was a bit schizophrenic. Unpredictable weather makes figuring out what to wear each day stressful – leaving you scratching your head while staring blankly inside your closet. Feeling both hot and cold within the span of an hour is the new norm for people living in the city, so in order to be dressed appropriately for the unpredictable temperatures while still being able to maintain your own personal style, I suggest building your outfits around multiple layers.Friday I had a packed day of meetings, so I dressed corporate-appropriate with a GQ flare. I wore black slacks from H&M, a crisp white button-down (you can never have enough of these in your closet), the Urban Gentleman tie from my new collection, and a thin wool top coat. I carried the items needed for the day in a brown leather duffle (with a blue lined bottom) from Canvas by Lands End instead of a traditional work bag to make the look have a sporty touch.Friday night means hanging …
