Matcha Movement

It’s no secret how much I love matcha. But what exactly is it? Matcha is a fine green tea powder that comes from crushing the tea leaves. It’s a powerful antioxidant because the entire leaf is being consumed rather than just the extract from typical tea. Matcha also boosts your metabolism, provides vitamin C and magnesium, and is a natural detoxifier for your body. It contains high levels of EGCG which is a compound known to have tremendous cancer fighting properties and boosts your energy levels and endurance. Matchaeologist sent me their kit to try, and I have to say the matcha powder is delicious. The flavor is refreshing and light and the powder has a roasted aroma. This company prides themselves on sourcing and curating the highest-quality of matcha, creating a rich and creamy flavor. Here are my steps towards making a perfectly delicious matcha latte: 1. Add one scoop of matcha to a small bowl 2. Add a tiny bit of hot water so that the matcha sits just underneath the water line …

5 Tips for a Healthier You

You know the saying: “New Year, New You!” To be completely honest, I never make New Year Resolutions. I’ve always believed you should keep both long and short-term goals throughout the year and constantly work towards achieving them, rather than starting over every year. I like to look at the New Year as a way to continue working on what it is that I want to accomplish. I always tell people that living a truly healthy life is a combination of both physical activity and what you are putting in your body. Many people ask me about my diet, so I wanted to share 5 easy tips for a healthier life: 1. AVOID PROCESSED FOODS                   They spike your cholesterol, contain toxic ingredients, have little nutritional value and are high in both sugar and high fructose corn syrup. In fact, many processed foods have been proven to lead to overeating, filling your body with empty calories and in effect making you even hungrier. 2. EAT VEGGIES EVERY …

Chest Blast

Want to blast your chest? Try the cable cross. It completely stretches your pecs to build deep rooted muscle. The rule with the cable cross is if you keep the pulleys as high as they can go, that works out your upper pecs while positioning the pulleys near the floor and lifting upward will work your lower pecs.  Here’s a great quick chest work out (Perform three sets with 12-15 reps each): Upper Cable Cross Lower Cable Cross Butterfly Machine Barbell Bench Press – Medium Grip Push-Ups With Feet on an Exercise Ball (For this one, do three sets of 25-50 each, depending on your strength).

Stay Motivated

I’ve had some requests to talk about how to get into the routine of working out and eating healthy so I wanted to share some hopefully helpful tips! 1. My favorite time to exercise is in the morning before the work day begins. You feel refreshed and ready to take on whatever the day may bring, and you don’t have to worry about missing a work out later in the night if you become too busy. The hardest part is getting up. Set your alarm on your phone, and leave it across the room so you are forced to get out of bed to turn off the alarm. Once you are physically out of bed, you are more inclined to stay up and get dressed for a pre-work morning workout.  2. Make a workout schedule. You should always alternate what body parts you exercise per day. For example, I like to do back, biceps and quads one day and then shoulders, pecs, triceps and calves another day. Know what muscle group you are targeting before …

Abs Part 2

Abs are one of my favorite parts of the body to workout because there are so many different excercises that can be done for them. Here is a quick 15 minute routine focusing on your sides that will leave your abs feeling strong and toned! 50 right-side abs: Lay on your right side with your knees slightly bent in and touch your elbow to your thigh. 50 left-side abs: Lay on your left side with your knees slightly bent in and touch your elbow to thigh. 3 sets of 15 rep side-bends: Grab a weight that you are comfortable using, I use a 45 plate, and stand with your feet hip-wide distance apart. Bend down on your left side bringing the weight to the middle of your leg and stand slowly back up. Repeat 15 times and switch the weight to your right side to work that side out. Take a 30 second break and do two more sets of this. 150 Bicycles: Lay on the ground and bring your legs up in the air, …

Hammer Curl

Today’s feature exercise is one of my all-time favorites: the hammer curl. The hammer curl is one of the best exercises to sculpt your biceps, but it also works out your entire arm, from the wrist all the way up to your shoulders. It makes your veins pop and isolates your bicep to really work the muscle. Throw this into your bicep routine and you should see even more results! How To Do: Grab a dumbbell in each hand along the sides of your body with your palms pointed towards your body. Doing my favorite exercise in a quick bicep #workout: hammer curls ?? read more over on the blog now – link in bio! ?#fitness A video posted by Tommy DiDario (@tommydidario) on Aug 5, 2015 at 4:46pm PDT Curl your elbows and raise the dumbbells up, then slowly bring your arms back straight down. Coconut Chia Acai Bowl

This is one of my new favorite lunches in NYC! This Coconut Chia Acai Bowl is from Pure Green and contains mango, pineapple, bananas, and coconut water all mixed together. On top sits sliced apples, blueberries, chia, hemp granola and coconut (my favorite).  It’s nice and light so won’t leave you feeling overly stuffed for the second half of your day and is packed with nutritional benefits. Hemp granola is a high protein seed that is easily digestible and packed with vitamin E and nine essential amino acids for your body and acai berries are a powerhouse antioxidant to keep your health in top-notch condition!  If you don’t have a location near where you live, then pick up the ingredients at your local grocery store and make your own version…your tastebuds will be thanking you!

Pure Green, Pure Obsession

You guys… I discovered today the best new juice shop in NYC. Pure Green uses the freshest ingredients that are truly natural, and they support local farm communities by buying everything from their neighbors. The machines they use to make the juices are some of the only few on the market that don’t strip the ingredients of the juices while being created, and they are DELICIOUS. Give your body a bath of nutrients and check them out here. ??

Go Clean

Here are a few of my favorite food items that get me through each day. I try to live the healthiest life I can, which boils down to eating clean. For over five years I have eliminated red meat, pork and turkey from my diet. I stay away from processed foods and sugary products (such as sodas, artificially sweetened drinks, high fructose corn syrup foods, etc). Instead I eat a diet loaded with fruits, veggies, lean protein (lots of chicken and seafood) and free of dairy (almond milk all the way!)? Each day post workout I have a protein shake made from in my opinion the best plant-based powder out there: Sun Warrior. It’s all natural, vegan, and free of GMO’s and artificial preservatives. I throw in bee pollen, which my best (yogi) friend got me hooked on. Bee pollen is the most natural form of a vitamin for your body. It contains almost every single nutrient required by humans and provides a natural energy booster and natural glow for your skin. Chia seeds are …
