The Grand Floridian, Walt Disney World

This weekend, I partnered up with the Grand Floridian Hotel for a Disney takeover! This Victorian-themed hotel is surrounded by water and looks as though it was plucked straight out of the 1900s. We were instantly greeted by a jazz band playing instrumental versions of the classic Disney tunes. The resort has its own private beach and two pools (we definitely jumped in between park hopping in 90-degree heat). The monorail is attached to the building for quick and easy access to the parks. For such a short weekend getaway, the convenience of being one stop away from the Magic Kingdom was crucial in maximizing our time. One of the reasons we were looking forward to this was because Disney just opened Animal Kingdom at night. The Tree of Life now transforms into a beautiful light show, morphing into an array of colors, animals and imagery throughout the night. There’s also a new Jungle Book show on the river set to music and special effects that celebrates the new film. My favorite update to the park is …

Vintage/Retro Tees

The heat has officially arrived in New York City! Gone are the heavy layers consisting of sweaters, wovens, and henleys and in are the clothes that keep you cool: tees and shorts. Yes, colder months allow for more fashion options for men (because you can wear more pieces of clothing at once). But that doesn’t mean you can’t create memorable summer looks. This summer I am all about the vintage tee and colored shorts. Vintage tees are a cool way to add a non-mainstream graphic onto your clothing thats both impactful and a great conversational piece. It suddenly gives life to an otherwise basic tee. You can play with the colors and patterns of these tees. Plus: the best ones are made of ultra soft fabric. Find these tees at any “fast fashion” store like Urban Outfitters, H&M, Forever 21, and even Bloomingdales.I complimented my tee with a pair of bright white shorts. Instead of just sticking to denim, black, and grey shorts this summer, try experimenting with bright colors. Use the shorts to compliment …

The Fight For Acceptance and Respect

There is a serious problem in how we treat each other. Hiding behind a computer screen, people think they can torment, tease, and harass somebody for anything they decide is “newsworthy” enough to make fun of. But how can you expect others to accept and understand the gay community, when people in our very own community spew hatred? This is a community that already has to fight harder and louder to be heard and accepted, and yet so many use hateful rhetoric towards one another. I have been blown away by the support from so many people around the world — from mothers of gay and straight teenage boys expressing how our story of love and marriage has moved them, to helping men of all ages make steps towards coming out, to couples expressing how we have helped them make the decision to get married after being together for years. But I have also received messages from members of the gay community criticizing everything from our appearance to our intelligence. Some have even wished us …

MatchaBar, NYC

MatchaBar is a cafe that serves a slew of matcha-flavored snacks and beverages with powder sourced from an independent family farm in Japan. Basically, this place is heaven. The owners invited me to their Chelsea location for the launch of their new Spring menu items and hours later, I am still thinking about what I sampled. Their iced coconut chai matcha latte was the perfect blend of creamy and sweet. It contains 2 grams of matcha powder. Both the chai tea and coconut milk are organic. I was craving chocolate so I had the matcha coconut cacao bar which is decadent and flavorful. Cacao is a great way to satisfy your chocolate craving while giving your body a boost of antioxidants (even more than dark chocolate). I also loved the iced watermelon basil tea, made with freshly pressed watermelon juice. To top off the tasting, I had the matcha white chocolate coconut crunch ice pop … and I’m not sure there are any words to describe the amount of satisfaction I had.If you are wondering what …

Matcha Movement

It’s no secret how much I love matcha. But what exactly is it? Matcha is a fine green tea powder that comes from crushing the tea leaves. It’s a powerful antioxidant because the entire leaf is being consumed rather than just the extract from typical tea. Matcha also boosts your metabolism, provides vitamin C and magnesium, and is a natural detoxifier for your body. It contains high levels of EGCG which is a compound known to have tremendous cancer fighting properties and boosts your energy levels and endurance. Matchaeologist sent me their kit to try, and I have to say the matcha powder is delicious. The flavor is refreshing and light and the powder has a roasted aroma. This company prides themselves on sourcing and curating the highest-quality of matcha, creating a rich and creamy flavor. Here are my steps towards making a perfectly delicious matcha latte: 1. Add one scoop of matcha to a small bowl 2. Add a tiny bit of hot water so that the matcha sits just underneath the water line …
