Spotlight: Flannels

Nothing feel more fall-like than a comfortable flannel! The problem with flannels is that many of them feel itchy, starchy, or just plain rough. When shopping for this type of shirt, make sure you go for a softer fabric, one that you can picture yourself wearing all day long. Flannels are timeless, but many of them are a bit dull and boring. Make sure you pick some that have pops of bold colors and have patterns with bold thick and thin lines to give a more modern feel to this type of shirt. I like to layer it with a henley underneath it to give the look a more seasonally cozy feel. This is a piece everyone should have in their wardrobe for the upcoming fall and winter months and whether you throw it over a henley, layer it under a jacket or wear it standing alone, the shirt is sure to give you the perfect fall  look!???

Rugged Feel

One of my favorite looks this season is centered around henleys. These shirts are perfect for the fall because they can be worn as a layering piece under a jacket or flannel, or they can be worn solo on a crisp day. Remember that henleys should fit closely to your body as its meant to be a form-fitting shirt. I paired this off-white Henley from J-Crew with a grey distressed pair of denim from Ralph Lauren, one of my favorite pairs of jeans to wear in the cooler months. A flannel wrapped around the waist and black boots from Steve Madden were the perfect touch to complete this look. I like to tuck the bottom of my pants into my boots and crinkle the fabric up a bit to give a more laid back and rugged feel. I wear boots all fall and winter long and have this pair also in brown. I definitely recommend buying a pair or two for the season because you can get so many different looks out of them! Lastly, …

Revamp Your Pants Collection

Pants are one of my favorite items to experiment with in the fall and can make your entire outfit pop. These subtle black and blue plaid dress pants are perfect for swapping out your go-to khakis or chinos and adding in a statement piece to your look. I paired the pants with a bright gingham woven and a dark black cardigan to contrast against the white and blue checkered squares up top, but match nicely with the pants down below. The solid cardigan ties all the colors and patterns of the entire outfit together, which is an important factor in making sure you look remains clean rather than chaotic. Cardigans are also a perfect way in the fall to stay warm in an item that adds to your outfit without putting on a heavy coat just yet!

Varsity Jacket

Looking outside this morning, the dark city sky and misty rain made it unappealing to leave our cozy apartment. However, weekends don’t roll around nearly enough so it was time to take advantage of the day. I decided to throw on this varsity jacket from Zara which happens to be one of my favorite pieces of outerwear because I love the vintage throwback feel to it. I paired the coat with a very simple, white, thinly striped tee from Alternative Apparel because the focal point of the look is the statement jacket. A colorful or boldly patterned tee would detract from the coat and look a bit too “busy.” Brown chinos were the perfect pant to throw with the outfit to contrast with the denim jacket. I also have to admit, I am a sucker for a good beanie. The one I am wearing is completely old school, from my high school days when I worked at Abercrombie but has been very good to me over the years. ? I love throwing beanies on all …

Start To Fall

Although I am missing the warm summer days, after a European trip I must say the start to fall has been pretty incredible?. I am really looking forward to swapping tee’s for cool jackets and cozy, warm layering pieces. One of the pieces I am most excited to wear this fall is the blazer. This is an item that you can wear in numerous ways. Pair it with a graphic tee for a night on the town, throw it over a woven for work or your next cocktail party, or even wear it with a henley and denim for a more casual look. I love the deep blue color of the blazer pictured above paired with a soft blue woven. The pocket square adds the perfect punch to the jacket and is a great option to wearing a traditional tie. Charcoal is a big color for me this fall and the pants match with almost any color blazer you may have in your closet. I definitely recommend picking up a few blazers this season you …
